Oatmeal Maple Cream Sandwich Cookies
One of my favorite culinary things to do is combine my favorite recipes to create interesting new creations. Many different types of desserts are possible if you simply combine various cookies, bars, frostings, cakes and then play around a bit.
Recently I combined a standard oatmeal cookie with a maple frosting recipe I had wanted to make for a while but had not gotten around to. The result was the pictured sandwich cookie. I have since become a big fan of the sandwich cookie and have made several others which you’ll find here soon.
Another good recipe for adding whatever comes mind is brownies. If you have a solid brownie recipe, you can add any number of toppings to create very different tastes. My peanut butter brownie recipe will be posted shortly, and that recipe is quite adaptable in this way.

A bit off-topic, but I stumbled across your blog and was wondering if you knew any vegan places off the following list: http://www.dinegift.com/pages/checkout/default.cfm?content=restaurants&sessionid=#url.sessionid#
I received one of their gift certificates for Father’s Day and was hoping to find a nice place.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your post. Of the restaurants on that list, there are a few with good vegan options. One is Christpher’s in Porter Square. Their food is fairly good, and if you’re going with a meat eater, they should be quite content as well. Christopher’s definitely has a bar/hamburger joint type of atmosphere.
Slightly better is Elephant Walk, which has several locations, one of which is in North Cambridge on Mass Ave. They have a separate section of their menu which is entirely vegan. Their food is quite good if you are interested in a sort of asian fusion. The ambience of Elephant Walk is also nice — upscale, but not at all pretentious.
Best of luck!
